Sherene Shalhub, MD, MPH, FACS, DFSVS, is the Division Head of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the John Porter, MD Endowed Professor in Vascular Surgery. She co-directs the OHSU Heart and Vascular Service Line and serves as Vice Chair for Regional Strategy and Surgical Operations. Dr. Shalhub holds a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular & Medical Genetics and is the Executive Director of the Northwest Genetic Aortopathy and Arteriopathy Program (NW GAAP).
Dr. Shalhub received her medical degree from the University of South Florida and completed her general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Washington. She previously served on the faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Washington before joining OHSU.
Her clinical practice and research focus on the management of genetic aortopathy and arteriopathy, including Marfan syndrome, Loeys–Dietz syndrome, and vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, with an emphasis on complex aortic and arterial reconstruction and longitudinal disease management.
Dr. Shalhub leads the OHSU Vascular Genetics Translational Research Laboratory, where her work integrates vascular biology, ultrastructural phenotyping, and clinical outcomes to advance biologically informed risk stratification and management of aortopathy. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery and serves on the Professional Advisory Board of The Marfan Foundation. She previously served on the Medical and Scientific Board of The Ehlers-Danlos Society.
