William P. Robinson, MD, is Professor of Surgery, David S. Sumner Endowed Chair and Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery, and Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
His clinical practice involves the full range of open vascular and endovascular surgery with an emphasis on peripheral artery disease (PAD), aortic aneurysm disease, cerebrovascular disease, hemodialysis access, and venous disease. He has a particular interest in complex lower extremity revascularization and limb preservation.
Dr. Robinson is passionate about the education of surgical trainees and students. He’s won multiple teaching awards at his past and current institutions. He has a specific interest in advancing vascular surgical education through simulation.
Dr. Robinson’s research focuses on the clinical outcomes and effectiveness of vascular interventions, with a particular interest in surgical and endovascular intervention for lower extremity PAD. Dr. Robinson has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and given a number of invited national and international presentations on a variety of vascular clinical and educational topics. He recently co-edited a book entitled The Patient-Centered Approach to Claudication: A Guide for Vascular Specialists.
Dr. Robinson maintains active roles in numerous professional organizations. Dr. Robinson has been elected a Distinguished Fellow of the Society of Vascular Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has held a number of leadership positions in the SVS, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, Midwestern Vascular Surgery Society, Southern Association of Vascular Surgery, and the Vascular Quality Initiative. He serves as a reviewer for many peer-reviewed publications and serves on the Editorial Board of The Annals of Vascular Surgery.
Outside of work, he especially enjoys attending the activities of his three children with his wife and family, traveling, and reading history.
