Gainesville, Florida, United States
My name is Salvatore T. Scali, MD and I am a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Additionally, I serve as Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Clinical Fellowship. My research program focuses on improving outcomes and quality of care in vascular surgery through comparative effectiveness and health services research, with particular emphasis on national and international studies of abdominal aortic aneurysm, carotid disease, and lower extremity bypass. In parallel, I lead funded basic and translational investigations exploring the impact of uremia on skeletal muscle mitochondrial dysfunction in patients with peripheral artery disease, as well as the hemodynamic, physiologic, and neuromuscular mechanisms underlying dialysis access–related hand dysfunction. Most importantly, I am grateful to work within a highly collaborative team and currently serve in leadership roles within the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative, including the Chair of the EVAR Registry, with a shared goal of advancing evidence-based, patient-centered vascular care.
